Castellers
To know the culture of a people it is necessary to submerge in its popular traditions.
Mas Castells is situated in a strategic and privileged spot to get involved in one of the most rooted traditions of the Catalan culture: "els castellers". To find the origin of these human castles, profoundly linked to the city of Valls that is very near Mas Castells, we have to go back to the endings of the XVIII century. In this city, the first "Colles Castelleres" were born at the beginnings of the XIX century. Since that time, and during many decades, Valls was practically the unique city where this magnificent cultural manifestation took place. It consists on to raise, feet on shoulders, the maximum possible amount of people until the construction is crowned by the "anxeneta", the child that climbs to the top of the human castle to raise the hand as a sign of victory.
Due to the constancy of this people, "els Castellers" have become a tradition that on every Sunday gathers a big crowd of spectators in the biggest squares of the towns. It is an experience one has to have.
